OVERVIEW

This hour-long CD, performed by Green Anaconda, contains potent compositions which go beyond "rock and roll" to a new form of music: "Clang."  The songs are based on chapters and themes from the science-fiction/horror novel "Real Dracula."

It is an ugly, grating, savage noise---but at the same time, strangely beautiful.

In many ways it is like a snake---like a green anaconda!  Anacondas are very large, powerful, water snakes.  You might think they are ugly.  But their pattern of deep green/black-spots/yellow-tummy is a beautiful match to their environment, protecting them.

Also, they are clumsy and slow on land, but move with fluid grace in the water.  So also is this music by GREEN ANACONDA---discordant and rough, but with a powerful momentum and deep meaning.  [suggested listening restriction: "PG13," young people under 13 requiring parental approval to hear this CD.]

Summaries:

Jungle Clang (3:58)

In the deep jungle, surrounded by lions, monkeys, strange birds, and water snakes---a military team captures the Real Dracula, a mindless but savagely-powerful human monster.  They think they can take this evil creature and derive good from it.  But the only good that comes from dealing with Satan is for Satan himself...

Suicide Denied (8:19)

At times, we'd all like to give up and quit---even kill ourselves!  The pain and stress get to be so bad, the future looks so awful, our guilt is so great over things we've done, we just don't want to keep on keeping on.  But to give in to suicide is to be utterly defeated by life.  After a good night's sleep, things often will look a lot different than they do at midnight---the dark horror replaced with bright, interesting, beautiful things.  There's lot's to be gained by hanging on for just one more day, no matter how painful it might seem at the moment.

Perverse Awakening (10:45)

"Yes, it's a monster---but it's our monster!"  Unlike green anacondas, that are simply normal animals which can be quite friendly and tame when treated properly, monsters are no less monsters just because we claim them for our own.  Smoking, alcohol, drugs, honorless sex, laziness, and cruelty-for-self-gain all can not be controlled such that they do no harm.  Even though we might think we have them well-contained and serving us, we will end up serving them.

Living Dead (15:54)

It's tough to go on living when you should be dead.  We've all done things we're ashamed of, wish we could go back and change.  Even things we might deserve to die for---that we can never fix or make right.  But even though we can not go back in time and change the way things were, there is something called "atonement."  Atonement means to do what we can to pay back at least something for that which we took.  Maybe we can never pay it all back---but still there's good we can do if we just will try.  History is filled with people that did great things after doing terrible things; with much good coming from those who had the guts to keep on living even though by rights they should be dead.

Vortex (7:11)

Often, not only can we not let go of the past---the past keeps sucking us back in.  Things that just keep popping up in your mind, torturing you over and over, making you go through them again and again.  It's not fair!  You should be able to turn a switch and just "forget" the things you don't want to remember!  But it's not that easy.  They only way we can really make peace with the past is by confronting it head-on, realizing that we're not expected to be perfect, that we can and do get better (which means we were once worse).  Also, things happen---things that aren't really our fault at all!  We can make the past worthwhile, and come to terms with it, if we learn from it---powerful lessons that make us better people, capable of doing and being better both now and in the future.

Running with an Angel (6:26)

Sometimes people try to help us.  We don't like.  It's like they are criticizing us, and looking down on us (what makes them so much better than us that they can try to tell us what to do???)  But even though they may be nagging and yelling and pestering---maybe they do it because they really do love us.  After all, if they didn't love us, they'd just ignore us---not at all interested if we are hurting ourselves!  It's often that way with Moms and Dads---what a pain they are!  Even the best parents are pains!  You just want to get away from them so they're not in control anymore, so you can do things the way you want to do things!  That's just natural.  But in our rush to gain our own lives, we should not lose them because we're too stupid to recognize when the "demon" we're stuck with is really a guiding angel...

Wayward Children (4:35)

Still, all kids want to grow up.  Growing up means making one's own decisions.  That's a wonderful freedom.  But it's also a heavy responsibility.  Now I can't blame Mom, Dad, the Boss, or Society.  If I screw up, there's no one to blame except for me.  And Real Life can be rough.  The consequences of my actions can be severe.  Yet when everyone else turns away, for some very strange reason---our parents usually still love us!  When the very worst happens to us, if we're willing to admit we've screwed up royally and we were wrong---it's the rare Mom or Dad that will turn us away.  It's called "home"---and it takes a long time before most "children" really realize how valuable and precious it is (like 30-40-50 years...)

Dracula on the Mall (7:12)

But the outside "bad" (as in "not good") influences sure do "call-out" to us.  Oh yah.  And they promise wealth, success, and health.  But they lie.  The pornographer, the pusher, the pimp, the bookie, the gangsters, the cult-leaders, the power-brokers---all want to TAKE from us our wealth, success, and health.   They care nothing for us except for how we can be used for their pleasure.  That's the definition of "evil"---taking pleasure from the pain of others.  We can blindly accept their short-term, small pleasures, or intelligently reject their long-term, huge pain: turning our backsides to "Dracula on the Mall."
