Examples of MEDIUM-SIZED HABITATS for Reptiles
Here are two home-made medium-sized habitats. They are constructed from particle board, have several coats of water-resistant paint, and are held together with angle-irons and screws such that they can be dismantled and easily moved. They are about 4 by 3 by 3 feet each.
These two separate habitats have the same features as noted in the small example (the aquarium on top of the piano).
The entire top of the habitat is hinged, lifts up, and is held up by a stick-support. Looking down into the left cage, you can see the sand substrate, the two snakey occupants (a speckled king snake and a grown ball python), a soft green towel for the snakes to sit on if they wish, a big orange tub of water for them to go drink from or crawl into, large branches secured into place by lashes, and an opened box with a soft towel inside, opening cut at one end, and the covering towel to the left of the box. Normally, the box would be closed and dark.
Heating coils under the sand keep it gently warm. You can see that if the largest snake were stretched fully out, it would roughly reach from one side of the cage to the other.
